More about Miranda:

Miranda has always had a love for all things outdoors. At an early age she became enthralled with nature documentaries and soon noticed their tone shifting. She listened as the narrator described how the beautiful animals and plants on the screen were threatening extinction. She felt a strong need to do SOMETHING about it.

Miranda’s passion for environmental science and sustainable agriculture grew through her time in High School. Following graduation, she pursued a degree in environmental sustainability and geography at Western Michigan University. During her studies she realized that people needed to feel connected to a place before engaging in action to protect it. She found the best way to do this was through educating the community and the next generation about why the natural world around them is important.

Although Miranda was born and raised in Milan, Michigan, she and her family would spend weeks of the summer camping at the Interlochen State Park. Trips to the Cherry Bowl Drive-In, seeing a show at the Interlochen Arts Academy, enjoying the Cherry Festival, and going on hikes were the highlights of her childhood. She and her family still try to make time to go camping and they love visiting her in Traverse City.

As the Environmental Educator at the Grand Traverse Conservation District, she hopes to help people grow connections and relationships between themselves and the natural world.
